The President of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou, together with the Minister of Tourism Germán Cardoso, have presented a plan to develop a five-star hotel with an integrated casino in the country.
The casino will be located between the towns of La Paloma and Chu on the Rocha coast, which is often called the South American Riviera.
Cardoso said this is a highly anticipated project for the coast. He sees the project as an opportunity to boost Rocha’s development. “We have prepared a list of conditions for the international call to present expressions of interest for the concession and operation of a private hotel and casino on the oceanic coast of Rocha.”
Cardoso added the tender documents were prepared by a specially created team of technicians and other Ministry of Tourism officials. The call for bids will begin on September 23, “with a period of 60 days for the presentation of initiatives.”
Flavia Coelho, the mayor of Rocha, said a team of professionals was called together in spring in preparation “for the call of interest to international expression, to specify much-desired work in the department of Rocha, as is that dream of so many years with the execution of a five-star hotel with a casino, which will give the definitive impulse and development to one of the most magnificent and wonderful places that the Uruguayan coast has.”
